There is a multidisciplinary team that closely cares for patients.

At present, depression has become a mental health problem that has a serious impact on Thai society. According to data from the Department of Mental Health, as of 2023, more than 1.5 million Thais had been diagnosed with depression. And the number of people receiving treatment for this disease is increasing every year. However, it is estimated that there are millions of people still undiagnosed or treated. which shows the severity and distribution of this disease throughout the national territory. These troubling statistics suggest that access to effective treatments remains a major problem. Many patients do not respond to traditional treatments. As a result, the introduction of new technologies A new therapeutic innovation, dTMS (deep transcranial magnetic stimulation), is playing a key role in providing a new option for patients suffering from severe depression.

Dr. Natthaphat Lamliangphon, psychiatrist BMHH or Bangkok Mental Health Hospital He said: “Currently there are many treatments for depression, such as medications, psychotherapy. Treatment with dTMS or Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation has recently been introduced, which consists of the release of electromagnetic waves to stimulate the brain in the areas affected by the disease. to stimulate nerve impulses Causes the release of chemicals in the brain. This will help balance the functioning of the brain to return to normal and reduce the onset of depressive symptoms. This dTMS treatment has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as safe and effective in treating depression. Especially in patients with severe symptoms There are side effects of the medicine. not responding to medications or has been taking the medicine for more than a year but symptoms have not improved. But nowadays dTMS is used in combination with psychotherapy and medications to increase the effectiveness of the treatment.”

The work of dTMS (deep transcranial magnetic stimulation) is to release electromagnetic waves to stimulate the frontal area of the brain. Each time it will be stimulated through a cap that the patient wears on the head, which will be stimulated for 2 seconds and left to rest for 20 seconds, then the stimulation repeated for 20-30 minutes. The response to electromagnetic wave treatment depends on the quantity. Cumulative Stimulation Times But there are limits to daily stimulation. Therefore it is necessary to continue stimulation for at least 10-15 days or no more than 1 week. Before receiving dTMS treatment, a psychiatrist will assess each patient’s risks.

Depression is still a serious concern, especially in the current situation of Thai society. BMHH sees the importance of treating depression, which is still a mental health issue that requires careful care. The launch of dTMS technology is therefore another important step that opens up new treatment opportunities for patients and those close to them to better understand the patients they need to care for. It also encourages people to be more careful and aware of their mental health.
