Britani Bateman, a newcomer to Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, is facing a lawsuit from her former mother-in-law, Sandra Underwood, who alleges the reality star misused $100,000 from a family trust. The legal action, initiated May 6, claims Bateman used the funds for personal gain and has not repaid them.
Underwood’s complaint states that Bateman acted “willfully, maliciously and through intentionally fraudulent conduct” in converting the funds. Bateman was married to John Scott Underwood for seven years; their divorce was finalized in October 2023.
The lawsuit adds another layer to the ongoing drama surrounding Bateman. She previously accused her ex-husband of draining their joint accounts and excluding her from shared business ventures.she also faced a $2.5 million lawsuit last year. Now,tensions with her former in-laws have escalated.
According to court documents,Sandra Underwood deposited $100,000 into the Integrity Trust,established in 2019 by Bateman’s late father,Melvin Merrill Martin,with Bateman and her mother as trustees. Underwood believed she could withdraw the money without issue. Following Bateman’s mother’s death, John Underwood became the successor trustee.
Underwood’s legal team says they attempted to resolve the issue privately in March, requesting the funds’ return, but Bateman has allegedly not complied.sandra Underwood, in her 80s, says she urgently needs the money to cover rising medical expenses, as her monthly income of $1,600 is insufficient.
The complaint seeks repayment of the $100,000, plus interest, and coverage of Underwood’s legal fees, citing “simple decency and morality.”
