Hybrid strength is led by new RVs (recreational vehicles, vans + SUVs). The best selling hybrid car in the first quarter was Kia Sorento (19,729 units), Hyundai Santa Fe (15,981 units), and Kia Carnival (12,203 units). A partially modified model for the Sorento was released in August last year, and a hybrid model was added for the first time for the Carnival during a partial modification in November last year. The Santa Fe is a new car that was completely changed in August last year and is for sale. For all three car models, hybrid models are sold more than gasoline models in Korea.
As the popularity of hybrids increases, the situation where supply cannot keep up with demand is expected to continue for some time. According to the car industry, as of the beginning of May, the waiting period for the Carnival Hybrid is one year, and the ‘Gravity’ model with a more luxurious design has to wait about one year and six months. The waiting period for Santa Fe is also 6 months, and for Sorento, it is around 7 to 8 months.
