Dei Biopharma Advances RNA Cancer Vaccines, Immunotherapy
Updated June 12, 2025
Kampala—Dei Biopharma Ltd.is making waves in cancer treatment with novel RNA-based technologies and CAR-T cell immunotherapy. Dr. Matthias Magoola, the company’s founder, recently published research in the journal Cancers, highlighting the potential of these innovative therapies to reshape global oncology standards.
The paper, titled “Current Progress and Future Perspectives of RNA-Based Cancer Vaccines: A 2025 Update,” emphasizes the promise of RNA-based vaccines in oncology. Dei Biopharma is investing heavily in this research, holding over 100 patents in the United States related to its technology, including methods for cancer prevention and treatment using CAR-T cell immunotherapy.
While existing CAR-T cell therapies, such as those tested by Legend Biotech and Johnson & Johnson for myeloma treatment, can cost over $500,000 per patient, Dei Biopharma aims to offer a more accessible solution. Their patented therapy (US 2025/0043258) targets common defective genes across various myeloma types and other cancers, potentially costing less than $100 per patient.

This approach, focusing on universal gene targets, could revolutionize the affordability and accessibility of cancer care worldwide. The company’s work focuses on RNA cancer vaccines and CAR-T cell immunotherapy.
Dr. Magoola’s work has garnered international recognition. He recently received the African Excellence & Personality Awards (ACEPA) in Ghana for his contributions to healthcare innovation and economic transformation in Africa. This follows awards from the Ratna Pharma Awards in India and the International Molecular Biologist Awards, where he was named Best Researcher for his work in mRNA therapeutics and protein vaccine growth.
Dei Biopharma is developing a multi-billion-dollar drug and vaccine production facility in Matugga, near Kampala. The company’s research portfolio includes patents for interventions against diseases such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, sickle cell disease, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s.
In addition, Dr. Magoola secured a U.S. patent in January 2025 for a universal vaccine against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), potentially saving governments billions by reducing reliance on imported animal vaccines.
Dr. Magoola credited the ugandan government, especially President Yoweri Museveni, for their support. President Museveni has highlighted dei Biopharma as a key investment in Uganda’s emerging pathogenic economy and pledged support to accelerate the licensing of locally produced vaccines.
The government is also working to fast-track the National Drug and Health Products act to help the National Drug Authority (NDA) achieve WHO Maturity Level 3 status, facilitating international recognition of Ugandan-made vaccines.
What’s next
Dei Biopharma plans to continue its research and development efforts, focusing on making its affordable cancer therapies available globally. The company also seeks to expand its vaccine production capabilities to address other critical diseases.
