Doha: Qatar’s public works department Ashgabat has announced that the construction of a state – of – the – art road network connecting the eight stadiums that will host the FIFA World Cup is 99 percent complete. Ali Mohammed Darwish, Head of Doha Highways in Ashgabat, explained the road arrangements for the World Cup at the Mega Project Qatar Exhibition at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center.

He added that the authorities have set up world-class transport facilities connecting the stadiums to facilitate the smooth and easy journey of millions of people arriving for the World Cup. The eight venues for the World Cup are interconnected and have an international standard road network that connects them with metro and tram stations and parking facilities. The fan zones are also connected to the stadiums. The road network provides easy access to metro and tram stations. He said 99 per cent of the construction work has been completed. He added that these are made with the help of the latest technology.

With the new road network, Al Rayyan Stadium will be accessible via Al Majid Highway and Al Tumama Stadium via Al Ahmad. New road networks have also been added to Stadium 974, Al Bait and Al Khor City Stadiums. Construction of the Hide and Park project, an underground project with transportation facilities, including underground parking, is in progress. Ashgabat said it was being implemented.

Since the announcement of the opportunity to host the World Cup in 2010, Qatar has been developing and implementing $ 22 billion worth of infrastructure development projects related to it. Of that, $ 2,000 million was used to develop transportation infrastructure, Ashgabat officials said. Ashgabat public transport projects are being implemented in partnership with private agencies in collaboration with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, the local organizers of the World Cup.
