ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has concluded the primary phase of the ROG Challenge 2026, a game development competition designed for high school students. The initiative, organized in partnership with the Inspectoratul Școlar al Municipiului București, serves as a practical exercise for students interested in the technical and creative aspects of game development.
The competition saw participation from students representing 42 different high schools, with 41 games successfully passing the validation stage. A jury consisting of gaming content creators, ASUS specialists, and professors specializing in digital art and game design—including representatives from Gameloft and ECHO School—evaluated the entries.
Awards and Educational Grants
A gala ceremony held on March 31, 2026, marked the announcement of the winners. The top five finalists were awarded ASUS TUF Gaming F16 (FX607VJ) laptops. The subsequent ten finalists received vouchers valued at 1,500 lei for the ASUS eShop.
Beyond hardware prizes, the competition emphasized long-term educational support through a scholarship fund totaling 36,000 euro (approximately 178,920 lei). These grants were distributed based on the final rankings:
- 5,000 euro per year for 1st through 3rd place
- 4,000 euro per year for 4th through 6th place
- 3,000 euro per year for 7th through 9th place
Public Participation and Popularity Prize
While the primary winners have been determined, the competition remains open to the general public through a popularity prize. All validated game projects have been uploaded to Itch.io, where the public can vote for their favorite project until April 15, 2026.
As an incentive for participation, every person who votes for a game is automatically entered into a lottery to win an ASUS TUF Gaming laptop.
Broader ASUS ROG Ecosystem Initiatives
The ROG Challenge 2026 exists alongside other global ASUS initiatives aimed at the gaming community. ASUS is currently running a global giveaway titled Upgrade What Matters, which began on March 9, 2026, and continues until May 18, 2026. This contest focuses on desktop PC upgradability, offering prizes such as AMD and Intel 800 series motherboards, CPUs, and high-performance DDR5 memory kits.
High-end hardware featured in the Upgrade What Matters prize pool includes the ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5080 16GB GDDR7 OC Edition graphics card paired with a ROG Thor 1200W Platinum III power supply. Other bundles include the ROG Crosshair X870E Dark Hero motherboard and the ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming WiFi7 Neo motherboard.
ASUS is celebrating its 30-year legacy of graphics card innovation with the Cheers to 30 Years giveaway, which also features GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards and ROG gear. This coincides with the company’s ongoing efforts to showcase new gaming technology, following the CES 2026 ROG — Dare to Innovate virtual launch event.
