The Rolling Stones have confirmed the title of their upcoming studio album, Foreign Tongues, ending months of speculation fueled by cryptic social media messages and teasers.

According to the British news agency PA, the album is scheduled for release on July 10, 2026. This will mark the group’s first new studio project since 2023 and the 25th studio album of their career.

The announcement followed a coordinated campaign on Instagram by core members Mick Jagger, Ronnie Wood, and Keith Richards. The trio shared fragmented images of the album cover, which, when combined, form a single composite image.

Jagger posted the bottom section of the artwork featuring an illustration of his mouth and chin. Wood contributed the central portion showing eyes and a nose, while Richards shared the top section, depicting his hair and a signature multicolored scarf.

Prior to the official title confirmation, the band released a 13-second video on Friday, May 1, 2026, to their more than 4.2 million followers. The clip featured a brief preview of an untitled track accompanied by the band’s iconic tongue and lips logo against a moving background.

The video was accompanied by two emojis, including a CD, which led followers to conclude that a new full-length record was imminent.

Promotional Tactics and Limited Releases

As part of the lead-up to the announcement, the band utilized the alias The Cockroaches. The group has previously used this identity for surprise releases and unconventional promotional activities.

Under the Cockroaches moniker, the band released a limited-edition vinyl in April 2026 featuring the track Rough And Twisted. The record was distributed through independent stores and sold out within a few hours.

Career Context and Legacy

Foreign Tongues follows the 2023 release of Hackney Diamonds, which earned the band a Grammy Award. Since their formation in London in 1962, the Rolling Stones have established one of the most successful trajectories in rock history.

The band’s commercial record includes 14 number-one albums and eight number-one singles in the United Kingdom. They are widely recognized for enduring classics such as (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, Paint It Black, and Start Me Up.

The group has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 1989. Following the death of drummer Charlie Watts in 2021 at the age of 80, Steve Jordan joined the lineup.

While the release date for the new album is set for July 10, it remains unconfirmed whether the band plans to launch a supporting tour for the project.
