Klöser, who was competing in her fifth mountain bike event while navigating a recovery period from the Tour de France Femmes, was holding fifth position at the time of her withdrawal.

Race-Ending Mechanical Failure

According to the rider, the damage to her tire was extensive and could not be repaired using standard trailside tools. In a social media post, Klöser stated that she attempted to use eight tire plugs and three CO2 canisters in an effort to seal and inflate the tire, but the damage remained unfixable.

Because of the severity of the flat, Klöser opted to retire from the event rather than risk riding on the rim of her wheel. She confirmed that she had to call for a ride to exit the course.

Altitude and Preparation Challenges

Klöser’s participation in the Leadville 100 followed shortly after her appearance at the Tour de France Femmes, leaving her with a limited window for acclimatization to the high-altitude environment. She noted that while she felt prepared on the day prior to the race, the physical toll of competing at such high elevations became significant by the third day of her arrival in the region.

Felt ok yesterday but today (altitude day 3) hit me and I was far off the pace of the first 4 girls. Eventually managed to come around & was sitting alone in P5 but with 14k to go I flatted.

Despite the outcome, the Canyon-SRAM rider expressed satisfaction with her technical handling of the mountain bike, particularly given her relative lack of experience on the platform. She indicated that she views the race as a learning experience and intends to target the event again in the future with more specific preparation.

Impact on Life Time Grand Prix Standings

The result in Leadville has immediate consequences for Klöser’s standing in the season-long Life Time Grand Prix series. Following the DNF, she has dropped out of the top 10 and is currently positioned in 11th place. With only three events remaining in the series, her immediate schedule remains uncertain as she continues to manage her recovery from the Tour de France Femmes and a recent illness.

At the front of the race, Melisa Rollins of the Liv Racing Collective secured the victory. Sofia Gomez Villafañe of Specialized Off-road finished the day in seventh place, a result sufficient to maintain her overall lead in the Life Time Grand Prix standings.
