Russia launches a large-scale missile attack on Ukraine’s neighbor Poland, once it activates its air defense system
(AFP, Kyiv, 13th) Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine early this morning, sending 3 drones and launching 37 missiles, 8 of which were shot down by the Ukrainian army. Neighboring Poland even activated its air defense system for a time.
The Ukrainian Air Force issued a statement on social media saying that Russia had launched 37 missiles and 3 drones. Eight of the missiles were shot down.
The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia was using a variety of weapons to attack, including cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, anti-aircraft missiles and drones.
The Ukrainian Air Force also said that “more than 20 devices” failed to reach their targets due to “active measures taken through electronic warfare.”
Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ignat explained later. “They either fell in fields or detonated in the air or were affected by our military’s radio-electronic warfare,” he said on television.
Authorities have not reported any deaths.
Ukraine’s general prosecutor said a missile attack in the northeastern region of Sumy injured one civilian and damaged 26 buildings.
Viacheslav Chaus, the governor of the northern province of Chernihiv, said the area was “devastated” and added that authorities “have not yet revealed the specific location.”
Filip Pronin, the governor of Poltava province, said an unexploded missile landed in the backyard of a house in the central region of the province.
As the threat from Russian missiles increased, Ukraine’s neighbor Poland once activated its air defense system.
Russia said it had destroyed all targets in a series of attacks on Ukrainian munitions and drone facilities.
