Putin Agrees to Proposed Working Groups
Neither Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky nor Trump provided specific details on whether they agreed to the creation of a free trade zone in the Donbas, or if they would limit efforts to guaranteeing a demilitarized zone. Though, both leaders indicated progress had been made on resolving a key point of contention in the peace agreement.
according to a statement released by the Kremlin, Putin “agreed to the American proposal to resolve the situation in Ukraine through the establishment of working groups.One will focus on security issues, and the other on economic matters.” The call between Trump and Putin lasted for over an hour.
Trump emphasized the importance of Russia’s involvement, stating, “It is crucial to highlight that the working group will also work with Russia, because if we do it among ourselves we are not going to solve the problem.”
