Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Venezuela to meet with Maduro

The Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov, arrived in Caracas on Tuesday, on a visit as part of his tour of the Latin American region, to meet with Nicolás Maduro.

The state channel showed images of the arrival of the Russian representative at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, where he was received by the Vice Minister for Europe, Franklin Ramírez, and the Russian ambassador to Venezuela, Sergei Mélik-Bagdasarov.

Lavrov arrived in Caracas after his visit to Brazil, where he met with the Brazilian President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, as well as with the Foreign Minister, Muro Vieira.

Maduro announced yesterday, Monday, that he will hold a meeting with Lavrov in which he hopes to discuss Russia’s presence in Latin America and the Caribbean.

It is expected that, after his stay in Venezuela, Lavrov will visit Cuba and Nicaragua, countries that maintain intense economic and political relations with Russia.
