Russia claimed that five people were injured when Ukrainian troops attacked a crude oil storage facility in the Russian-occupied Luhansk region of eastern Ukraine on the night of the 7th (local time).

According to Reuters and Russia’s state-run TASS news agency on this day, Leonid Pashechnik, head of the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR), said via Telegram, “The enemy established a crude oil storage facility on the outskirts of the city Luhansk late at night.”

He said that five workers at the facility were injured in the attack and that a large fire had occurred which authorities were putting out. He also claimed that this attack was caused by a new ATACMS long-range surface-to-surface missile that the Ukrainian military received from the United States.

Ukraine has yet to release a statement regarding the attack that day.

When Russia annexed Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula in 2014, pro-Russian separatist forces declared the establishment of the Luhansk People’s Republic.

Russia, which invaded Ukraine in February 2022, claimed that Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson were incorporated into Russia’s “new territory”.
