RWE Expands Renewable Energy Footprint in Germany with Two New Wind Farms

Essen, Germany – Renewable energy giant RWE has secured contracts⁢ for two new onshore wind projects ⁤in Germany, adding 40‍ megawatts (MW) of clean energy capacity to the nation’s grid. The projects, located in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and North⁣ Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), ⁤are expected to begin construction in 2025 and come online by mid-2026.

The first project, situated in Papenhagen, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, will feature four wind‍ turbines with a combined capacity of 22.8 MW. This marks RWE’s first wind‍ farm in the region.

The second project will see RWE⁣ add three wind turbines to the existing Bergheim Wiedenfelder Höhe wind farm in NRW’s Rhenish lignite mining area. This expansion will contribute an additional 17.1 MW of capacity,⁣ utilizing recultivated ⁢land.

Together, the two ⁤wind farms will generate enough electricity to power approximately 28,500 households annually,⁤ significantly ⁤contributing to Germany’s ambitious energy transition goals.

“The energy transition ‍in Germany is making progress, and we are continuing to pick up speed,” said Katja Wunschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & australia. “We will be expanding our wind fleet in the north and west of the contry. The local people will also benefit from this through direct financial contributions to their communities.”

RWE is committed to supporting ⁣local communities and will voluntarily contribute 0.2 cents per kilowatt-hour of electricity produced to ⁢surrounding municipalities. This initiative could generate up to €190,000 annually for communities near the projects.

This proclamation follows ‍RWE’s recent completion of a 61.8⁣ MW repowering project ‍for the Lesse and Barbecke wind farms in Lower Saxony. With a strong focus on localized ⁢renewable projects, RWE operates from its headquarters in Essen⁤ and nine regional offices ⁢across Germany. The new projects underscore RWE’s dedication to expanding its renewable energy portfolio and supporting germany’s transition to a lasting energy future. By aligning its strategy with national and global climate ⁢goals, RWE continues to drive ⁤the shift towards clean energy while fostering valuable partnerships within local communities.
