Marketa Vondrousova continued her impressive run at the Berlin Open, defeating world number one Aryna Sabalenka to reach the final. The Czech player, currently ranked 164th after recovering from shoulder surgery, secured a 6-2, 6-4 victory. This marks Vondrousova’s first final appearance since her Wimbledon triumph in 2023.
Vondrousova will face Wang Xinyu in Sunday’s final in Germany. Wang, a qualifier from China, defeated Liudmila Samsonova, the 2021 Berlin Open champion, with a score of 6-4, 6-1, also securing her first WTA singles final.
Sabalenka struggled to capitalize on early opportunities, failing to convert two break points in the opening game. vondrousova than broke Sabalenka’s serve twice to take a commanding 5-2 lead in the first set. Although Sabalenka broke early in the second set to lead 2-0, Vondrousova responded instantly, leveling the score.
