Samsung Electronics Launches Premium Mobile AP ‘Exynos 2200’ – Samsung Newsroom Korea

Samsung Electronics has released the premium mobile AP ‘Exynos 2200’ with greatly enhanced graphic functions.

‘Exynos 2200’ is equipped with ‘Xclipse’, a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) jointly developed with AMD, providing a high-performance, high-definition gaming experience comparable to that of a console game.

Park Yong-in, president of Samsung Electronics’ System LSI Business Division, said, “‘Exynos 2200’ is a product that applies cutting-edge 4-nano EUV process, latest mobile technology, next-generation GPU, and NPU (Neural Processing Unit). “Samsung Electronics will continue to release differentiated strategic products as well as mobile APs to lead innovation in the overall system semiconductors.”

□ Provides a high-performance, high-definition graphics experience comparable to that of a console game

‘Xclipse’, a GPU jointly developed by Samsung Electronics and AMD, supports the industry’s highest graphics performance in mobile devices based on ‘RDNA 2’, AMD’s latest graphics architecture.

Samsung Electronics is the first mobile AP to be equipped with a hardware-based ‘Ray Tracing’ function.

The ‘ray tracing’ function realizes the game more realistically by tracing the light transmitted, refracted, and reflected on the object to realistically express the object.

Samsung Electronics is also equipped with ‘Variable Rate Shading’ technology that uses the GPU efficiently by selectively adjusting the image’s shadow.

‘Variable rate shading’ provides optimized rendering in high-performance and high-definition scenes by analyzing image brightness and motion.

In addition, ‘AMIGO (Advanced Multi-IP Governor)’, a proprietary solution that optimizes power efficiency, is loaded to reduce the burden on battery consumption in high-definition and high-spec games and programs.

David Wang, Senior Vice President, Radeon Technology Group, AMD said, “With the ‘RDNA 2’ graphics architecture, AMD will provide the latest low-power graphics solutions for PCs, laptops, game consoles, automobiles, and even smartphones.” Clips is the first collaboration case of various AMD RDNA graphics solution series to be installed on Exynos processors in the future. Based on the technical cooperation between the two companies, we will provide the best gaming experience to smartphone users.

□ Provides improved NPU performance and machine learning functions based on the latest CPU architecture

‘Exynos 2200’ is based on Arm’s latest CPU architecture ‘Armv9’, with improved NPU performance and machine learning capabilities.

In particular, the NPU computational performance has more than doubled compared to its predecessor, and the on-device AI function that implements AI functions in smart devices has also been strengthened.

In addition, ‘Exynos 2200’ is a ‘Tri-Cluster’ with 1 high-performance ‘Cortex-X2’, 3 ‘Cortex-A710’, and 4 low-power ‘Cortex-A510’ It was designed with an octa-core of ‘structure’.

‘Exynos 2200’ has a built-in 5G modem of 3GPP Release 16 standard. It supports all major 5G frequencies around the world, including low frequency bands (Sub-6, Sub-6) and very high frequency bands (mmWave, mmWave).

“The digital experiences of the future demand new levels of performance, security and efficiency,” said Rene Haas, head of Arm IP Products Group. “The 2200’ will be able to leverage key security features such as Arm’s Total Compute strategy and Memory Tagging Extension to deliver new mobile experiences enabled by purpose-based computing and specialized processing.” said.

In addition, ‘Exynos 2200’ is equipped with a high-performance ISP (Image Signal Processor) that can process up to 200 million pixels. ‘Exynos 2200’ supports up to 7 image sensors and can simultaneously process images and images input from 4 image sensors.

The ISP of ‘Exynos 2200’ works with the NPU to recognize various objects, environments, and people included in the background, and supports professional photographer-level photography by adjusting optimal color and contrast exposure.
