Samsung Expands Quick Share AirDrop Support to More Galaxy Smartphones

Samsung is expanding AirDrop support to a wider range of Galaxy smartphones through its Quick Share feature. This development follows the initial introduction of the capability on the Galaxy S26 series, aiming to simplify content sharing between Samsung and Apple devices.

The rollout began on March 23, 2026, starting in Korea. The feature is expanding to several other regions, including North America, Europe, Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, and Latin America.

Expanded Device Support and Requirements

While the feature was first available exclusively for the Galaxy S26 series, Samsung is now extending support to 10 additional Galaxy smartphones. This expansion includes flagship models from 2024 and 2025.

The following devices are confirmed to receive AirDrop support via Quick Share:

• Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra
• Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra
• Galaxy Z Fold 7
• Galaxy Z Fold 6
• Galaxy Z Flip 6
• Galaxy Z Flip 5

Samsung has not yet confirmed if the Galaxy S25 FE or Galaxy S24 FE will be included in this rollout.

Access to this feature for the expanded list of devices requires the installation of the One UI 8.5 beta. Users can sign up for the beta program through the Samsung Members app.

Technical Specifications and Implementation

The AirDrop functionality is integrated into Quick Share and is provided by Google. To utilize the Share with Apple devices feature, Galaxy devices must meet specific software requirements, including Quick Share app version 13.8.51.27 or later and Google Play services version 26.11.xx or later.

The feature is enabled by default on supported devices. For standard Quick Share functionality between Galaxy devices, the system requires a Samsung Account along with active Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections. General Quick Share compatibility extends to smartphones and tablets running Android OS version 10.0 (Q) and One UI 2.1 or above, as well as Galaxy Books released in 2020 or later.

Market Context

The move to integrate AirDrop support follows a similar implementation on Google Pixel phones, which received the capability in 2025. By extending this to a broader range of flagship models, Samsung is increasing the interoperability between its ecosystem and Apple’s hardware.

However, users opting for the One UI 8.5 beta to access these features should be aware of the inherent risks associated with beta software, such as potential bugs and application instability.

Samsung has indicated that the Share with Apple devices support will continue to expand to select flagship models in the future, though specific dates and models for subsequent releases have not been announced.
