Through this acquisition of Sonyo, Samsung Medison plans to develop services that simplify the work of medical professionals around the world and increase accessibility to medical services. The plan is to maximize the synergy between the technologies and solutions owned by both companies.
Sony has developed various cloud-based medical IT solutions and AI diagnostic assistance functions. In particular, the AI solution ‘Detect’, which has obtained FDA approval, evaluates and provides feedback on the quality of ultrasound images in real time. It also automatically extracts and provides the optimal ultrasound image, helping to improve the accuracy of ultrasound diagnosis and reduce the gap in capabilities among medical staff.
“We expect that Sonyeo’s solution will greatly contribute to reducing the medical gap in the global diagnostic field where there is a shortage of medical staff skilled in imaging diagnosis,” said Yoo Kyu-tae, CEO of Samsung Medison. “By combining Samsung’s advanced technology with Sonyeo’s AI solutions, we will lead innovation in medical device accessibility and accuracy.”
Cecile Brosset, CEO of Sonio, said, “Through synergy with Samsung Medison, we will continue to develop reporting solutions and diagnostic assistance functions for women’s health, and we will reduce the global medical gap more quickly. We are already seeing tangible results, such as successfully signing an AI solution supply contract with the largest obstetrics and gynecology chain in the U.S.”
