San Antonio is grappling ‍with the aftermath of intense rainfall that triggered widespread and deadly flash flooding. The severe weather event led to at least four fatalities, numerous water rescues, and a search for two individuals still missing, according to authorities.

The fatalities occurred in the city’s northeast section,where more than a dozen vehicles were discovered submerged.Some survivors reported being swept off an interstate access road by the⁤ rapidly rising floodwaters, according to San antonio Fire Department spokesperson Joe Arrington. The floodwaters carried vehicles into a ⁣nearby creek.

Firefighters responded to 65 water rescues between midnight and 8 a.m. Four individuals rescued from the same area where the fatalities occurred were hospitalized with ⁣injuries. Some people sought ‍refuge from the rising waters by climbing trees, according to fire department spokesperson Woody Woodward.

The⁢ National Weather Service reported that over 7 inches of‍ rain fell in some parts of the San Antonio area due to slow-moving showers and thunderstorms. Meteorologist Eric Platt noted that while the rain had subsided by midmorning, saturated ground conditions could still lead to⁤ further flooding.
