Sandra Ng’s Shocking Confession: When Her Acting Career Felt Like a Desperate Pursuit
Sandra Ng’s Journey: From Emotional Breakdowns to Award-Winning Performances
Overcoming Challenges in “Golden Rooster”
Sandra Ng shared her past acting experience in “The Do Show”. That year, Sandra Ng won the Taiwan Golden Horse Award for Best Actress for “Golden Rooster”. The film market had reached a low point, and her team suggested filming a comedy. This led to the idea of filming a story about a prostitute in depth, and thus the idea of ”Golden Rooster” was born. During filming, Sandra Ng recalled going to a small room to shoot a prostitution scene. A large number of extras were arranged to film a pick-up process using the “Mondochi” technique. Due to the low-cost production, filming took over ten hours a day in a hot and muggy environment, requiring physical contact with various extras. Sandra Ng had an emotional breakdown, crying bitterly as she felt her career as an actor was like receiving guests.
Award-Winning Performance in “Young and Dangerous: The Thirteen Sisters of Hongxing”
However, “Golden Rooster” is not Sandra Ng’s first award-winning film. In 1998, she won the Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actress for “Young and Dangerous: The Thirteen Sisters of Hongxing”. Sandra Ng pointed out that she never intentionally sought award-winning roles. The character of Thirteenth Sister first appeared in 1997’s “Young and Dangerous 1997”. The director and screenwriter thought the role was good, so they started filming an independent film about Thirteenth Sister. Sandra Ng was unexpected, thinking that award-winning roles usually have heavy emotional scenes, unlike Thirteen Girls.
Taking Risks in Experimental Film “Eve”
In addition to acting, Sandra Ng fully funded the filming of “Eve”, even selling property to transform and get out of her comfort zone. Initially, a boss was willing to lend 4 million to start filming. However, the film seriously overran the budget, requiring 7 million. During filming, Sandra Ng raised money on the spot to complete the project. Unfortunately, “Eve” failed at the box office. Sandra Ng realized she had to learn how to distribute films. Although she didn’t give up investing in movies, she became more cautious with her investments.
“The Love I Loved” will be officially released on September 12.
