Kerala Team for Santosh Trophy Football Championship Appoints Sathivan Balan as Pharisee

The Kerala Football Association has appointed Sathivan Balan as the Pharisee for the Kerala team participating in the Santosh Trophy Football Championship. PK Aziz and Harshal Rahman have been appointed as co-examiners. This decision comes as Sathivan Balan had previously played a significant role in Kerala’s championship win in 2018. The association has nominated five candidates, including former Kerala coach Bino George, Kerala Blasters Assistant TG Purushothaman, former Karnataka coach BB Thomas, and FC coach Srinidhi Dekka. In the preliminary round of the Santosh Trophy, Kerala will face tough competition from Goa, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Runachal Pradesh.

Achievements and Career of Sathivan Balan

Sathivan Balan, having completed his sports education in Cuba, embarked on a successful football career. For six years, he studied in Cuba before visiting Paris in 1995, where he left his mark in the sport. Sathivan began his studies at the Sai Kendra in Kolkata, later moving to Kerala, and continued to excel in football.

In 1999, Sathivan became a contract football analyst at the Sports Council, which proved to be a turning point in his career. In 2001, he was granted permanent residency at the Mikav Manasila Council. Working alongside former Indian football analyst Stephen Constantine, Sathivan’s dedication and talent shone through, earning him recognition and respect.

Under Constantine’s guidance, Sathivan rose to become the coach and selector of the Indian U19 team, leaving a lasting impact. He began as an inspector and held various esteemed positions throughout his career.

Sathivan’s leadership led to the triumph of India’s under-19 team, becoming champions. Additionally, his exceptional skills also earned him three inter-university championships with the Calicut University team. In 2018, Sathivan captained the Santhosh Trophy team, showcasing his excellence on the field.
