Saud Abdulhamid Provides Assist as Roma Defeat Lecce 4-1
Roma Roars Back to Winning Ways with Convincing Victory Over Lecce
Rome, Italy – Roma ended thier worrying losing streak in Serie A with a resounding 4-1 victory over Lecce at the Stadio olimpico on Saturday evening. The win, fueled by a dominant second-half performance, saw the Giallorossi climb to 11th place in the league standings.
Roma started brightly, taking the lead in the 13th minute through a goal from Alexis Saelemaekers. Lecce, though, fought back and equalized just before halftime through Nikola Krstovic, who converted a penalty awarded after a foul by Saud Abdulhamid.
The second half belonged to Roma. Gianluca Mancini restored their lead in the 59th minute, before Saud Abdulhamid turned provider, setting up Niccolò Zaniolo for Roma’s third goal in the 66th minute. The Saudi international’s pinpoint cross found Zaniolo unmarked in the box, and the Italian midfielder made no mistake, firing the ball past the Lecce goalkeeper.
Manu Koné rounded off the scoring for Roma in the 86th minute, securing a much-needed three points for the capital club.
The victory comes as a welcome relief for Roma, who had suffered a difficult run of form, including a 2-0 defeat to Atalanta in their previous match. The win also marks a positive start for new coach Claudio Ranieri, who took over the reins at the club earlier this month.
“Congratulations Giallorossi fans!” tweeted Abdulhamid after the match. “3 important points.. I am happy with my first contribution to the team at the Olimpico.. Thanks to the fans and my fellow players for the support.”
The Saudi international’s assist marked a historic moment, making him the first Saudi player to record a goal contribution in Serie A.
