RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has dismissed speculation that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s three-day visit to Saudi Arabia and his participation in summits will strain relations between the United States and Saudi Arabia. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said in a press conference that closeness to China is not far from the United States. He was speaking after a Sino-Arab summit hosted by Riyadh.

The foreign minister said that Saudi Arabia wants to cooperate with the United States and China and although competition is good, polarization is not good. The country’s economy is developing rapidly. So we want a partnership with everyone. His country does not believe in leaving one partner for another. Saudi Arabia has strategic partnerships with many countries, including the United States, India and China. We need to cooperate with the world’s number two economy. At the same time, he explained that this does not mean that we should not cooperate with the leading country in the world.

The country does not believe in polarization or choosing between one partner and another. He said the country will continue to set its policies based on its own interests. We have interests with the United States and China. We will continue to work to achieve them – the Saudi Foreign Minister added. Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced that he will establish closer security and energy relations with the Gulf countries during the summit meetings held in Saudi Arabia the other day. Yesterday, the third and final day of the visit, Xi attended a summit of the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council and a wider meeting of Sino-Arab leaders.

In the wake of the Russia-Ukraine war, the United States has asked oil producing countries, including Saudi Arabia, to increase production several times to solve the shortage in the global oil market, but Saudi Arabia has not agreed to it.
