Saudi Debt Market Value Doubles to 800 Billion Riyals

Capital Markets Authority Chairman Highlights Significant Growth in Debt Market

The Debt and Financial Derivatives Market Forum 2024 was launched in Riyadh, featuring His Excellency Muhammad Al-Quwaiz, Chairman of the Board of the Capital Market Authority, and experts in the financial sector.

Al-Quwaiz announced that the Saudi debt market has doubled in size since 2019, reaching 800 billion riyals. However, its percentage remains less than 20% of the Saudi economy.

The loan market has witnessed significant development in recent years, driven by massive demand. Investment in Saudi banks was previously limited, but the share of these banks has fallen below 50% in favor of other parties, such as funds, insurance companies, and specialized organizations.

Al-Quwaiz emphasized that the Saudi debt market aims to join more global indicators, stimulating foreign investment in the Saudi financial market. The next stages of the debt market will focus on widening the circle of advantage, with the current situation favorable for activating the debt market in the Kingdom.

Mal Mana bin Mohammed Al-Khamsan, Executive Director of the Financial Academy, welcomed attendees and highlighted the forum’s strategic platform for discussing emerging developments in the sector and shaping the future of the debt market.

The forum will discuss two main topics: debt markets and financial derivatives. The discussion will provide deep insights into the futures market, within a system of strategic partnerships with leading companies in the field.

The Financial Academy announced the launch of a new professional certificate in exclusive partnership with the International Financial Markets Association (ICMA), titled “Introduction to the Saudi Financial Market.” This certificate aims to provide in-depth research about the Saudi market.

The forum’s work focuses on exploring the dynamics of financial markets and insights of financial sector experts and CEOs. The event aims to contribute to achieving the state’s vision in the financial sector through strategic partnerships with local and international stock exchanges.

The forum constitutes a qualitative change in the Saudi financial sector, promoting innovation in financial services at the highest international level. The event will provide solutions designed to meet the changing needs of the sector and contribute to leading the financial sector.

The Financial Academy intends to utilize its capabilities to provide high-level specialized services that contribute to the development of an integrated and comprehensive financial sector. The forum will empower the Saudi financial sector, focusing on measuring the expected impact in the coming years.
