Savannah Guthrie’s Mother Missing, Investigation Points to Possible Abduction
Savannah Guthrie, co-anchor of NBC’s Today, is asking for prayers as authorities continue the search for her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie. The 84-year-old was reportedly taken from her home in Arizona, and the case is now being investigated as a possible kidnapping or abduction.
The disappearance was reported on Sunday, and authorities confirmed Nancy Guthrie was missing over the weekend. Sheriff Chris Nanos of Pima County, Arizona, stated during a press conference on Monday that Nancy Guthrie did not leave her Tucson residence of her own volition. He noted she is of sound mind but has limited mobility and requires daily medication.
“Right now, we don’t see this as a search mission as much as we do as a crime scene,” Sheriff Nanos said. “This is not dementia-related. She is sharp as a tack. The family wants everybody to know this… She is very limited in her mobility, we know she didn’t just walk out of there, that we know. There were other things at the scene that indicate that she did not leave on her own.”
Authorities are treating the case with urgency, describing it as a “race against time.” Possible DNA evidence was recovered at the scene, and results are pending, which could take days to process. Nancy Guthrie was last seen Saturday night at approximately 9:45 p.m. Local time in the Catalina Foothills area of Arizona.
Savannah Guthrie has been absent from the Today show this week, but released a statement on behalf of her family on Monday expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom,” the statement read. The family is fully cooperating with the investigation and encourages anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at (520) 351-4900.
In a social media post on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Guthrie implored her followers to join her family in prayer. “We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him,” she wrote. “Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment.”
Guthrie continued, “We need you. ‘He will keep in perfect peace those whose hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.’ A verse of Isaiah for all time for all of us. Bring her home.”
Nancy Guthrie is described as 5-foot-5, 150 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. She has some physical ailments. Law enforcement is asking anyone with information regarding her whereabouts to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900 and is encouraging anyone who knows of her location to ensure her safety.
The investigation is ongoing.
