Nassau, Bahamas – Scottie Scheffler turned in a blistering performance on Friday, carding seven birdies in a row to surge to the top of the leaderboard at the Hero World Challenge.the reigning Masters champion now holds a two-shot lead over Viktor Hovland heading into the weekend.Scheffler’s amazing run began on the 12th hole and continued through the 18th, showcasing his exceptional ball-striking and putting prowess.
“I was just trying to stay patient and hit good shots,” Scheffler said after his round. “The putts started to fall, and it was a lot of fun out ther.”
The 26-year-old Texan started the day three shots behind Hovland but quickly closed the gap with his notable birdie streak. Hovland, who held the overnight lead, struggled to find his rhythm on Friday, shooting a 1-under 71.
“Viktor played great yesterday, so I knew I had to come out and play well today,” Scheffler added. “It’s going to be a tight race this weekend.”
Rounding out the top five are Cameron Young, Xander Schauffele, and Collin Morikawa, all within striking distance of the lead.
The Hero World Challenge, hosted by Tiger Woods, features a star-studded field of 20 of the world’s top golfers. The tournament is known for its challenging course and picturesque setting at Albany Golf Club.
With two rounds remaining, the battle for the Hero World Challenge title is heating up. Scheffler’s impressive performance on Friday has put him in the driver’s seat, but the rest of the field will be looking to chase him down over the weekend.
