Marc Leishman, the Australian golfer, expressed a mix of disappointment and acceptance following his performance at The 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush. Despite a challenging final round,Leishman remains optimistic about his game and his future in major tournaments.
A Challenging Sunday Round
leishman, who has a history of strong performances at The Open, including a tie for second in 2015, found himself frustrated at times during the final day of the championship. “Some days you have it, and some days you don’t,” he commented with a smile. “Today I didn’t. Disappointing day.Yeah, you have days like that sometimes, and obviously you don’t want them too be on Sunday of a British Open. Yeah,we’d like to have had a better score but didn’t.”
This marked leishman’s return to the Open after a hiatus as 2022, a period during which he joined the LIV Golf tour. His participation this year required him to qualify, a situation he anticipates may continue for next year’s event if he doesn’t secure a top-10 finish.
Commitment to The Open and Future Prospects
Despite the need to qualify, Leishman affirmed his desire to compete in The Open.”Yeah, happy to be back,” he stated.”Obviously, if everything works out and we can get in them, I’d love to play them.If not, I’m not going to stress over it or anything. Yes,I really want to be here, but happy with my decisions.”
Leishman believes his game is on an upward trajectory, even if recent results haven’t fully reflected it. “I’ve been playing some really good golf. The last two months, the results haven’t quite been there. The game’s still there. The week before the one in miami or a couple of weeks before that, I kind of played like I did this week and just didn’t have a good result. I know it’s close, which is good,” he explained. He is hopeful that a strong finish to the year will help him secure his place in future Opens.
A Solitary Australian Success
Leishman was the sole Australian among nine competitors to successfully make the cut at Royal Portrush, highlighting a challenging tournament for his compatriots. Looking ahead, the Victorian has confirmed his participation in upcoming australian tournaments, including the Australian PGA at Royal Queensland and the Australian Open later in the year.
