Seahawks Dominate Cardinals: Key Takeaways from Gutsy NFC West Victory
By Doug Haller, Michael-Shawn Dugar, and Jelani Scott
The Seattle Seahawks (6-5) defeated the Arizona Cardinals (6-5) 16-6 in a tough game. This victory marked the Seahawks’ sixth consecutive win against the Cardinals and ended Arizona’s four-game winning streak. The Seahawks now hold a key position in the NFC West.
The game started with a defensive battle. The first score came in the second quarter when the Cardinals hit a 35-yard field goal. The wait for a touchdown ended when Seattle’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba made a big 46-yard catch. He then caught a 3-yard touchdown pass, putting Seattle ahead. In the third quarter, Coby Bryant intercepted Kyler Murray’s pass and returned it 69 yards for a pick six, widening Seattle’s lead.
Seattle’s defense played strongly throughout the match. The Cardinals struggled to score, managing only a late interception in the end zone and a field goal. A final 50-yard Seahawks field goal sealed the victory, while the Cardinals missed a last-minute field goal attempt.
Defense Shines for Seattle
Seattle’s defense was impressive. They kept the Cardinals out of the end zone, despite Arizona having a strong offense coming into the game. The Seahawks’ defense, led by coordinator Mike Macdonald, sacked Murray five times and intercepted him once. The Cardinals’ running back, James Conner, struggled, gaining just 8 yards on seven carries. Meanwhile, tight end Trey McBride stood out, catching 12 passes for 133 yards, setting a franchise record for tight ends.
Cardinals Face Challenges
The Cardinals struggled offensively, failing to find a rhythm. Although right tackle Jonah Williams returned from injury, the offensive line could not protect Murray. He finished the game 24 of 37 for 285 yards but suffered a pick six and multiple sacks. Despite their defensive efforts, the Cardinals could not overcome the Seahawks’ lead.
Seattle’s Trade Pays Off
Leonard Williams, acquired in a trade, had a standout performance. He recorded 2.5 sacks and four quarterback hits, causing significant disruption to the Cardinals’ offense. Williams’ impact was crucial for Seattle’s win.
The Seahawks now hold a slight edge over the Rams in the NFC West standings, thanks to their strong showing and timely plays.
