SEAI Solar Panel Grant Cut: Deadline Approaching
Solar Panel Grant Deadline Looms: Homeowners Urged to Act Before New Year
Homeowners considering solar panels have just weeks left to secure the maximum goverment grant before it’s reduced in January.
The Solar PV Scheme, funded by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), currently offers a grant of up to €2,100 to help offset the cost of installing solar panels. However, this amount will drop to €1,800 starting January 1, 2025.
“Christmas is a busy time of year, so it’s easy to put an application form on the long finger,” says John O’Keeffe, CEO of ePower, a leading solar panel provider.”But we would strongly encourage anyone interested in getting solar panels in the first eight months of 2025 to make the most of the available supports.”
Time is of the Essence
To qualify for the current grant amount, homeowners, including private landlords, must submit a completed application through the SEAI website before the December 31st deadline.
Once approved, homeowners have eight months to complete the installation.
“While solar panels’ long-term benefits and savings ultimately outweigh the upfront costs, it’s definitely worth going through the application process while the current grant offering is on the table,” O’Keeffe adds.
Solar Power on the Rise
The popularity of solar panels is surging in Ireland. According to the Irish Solar Energy Association (ISEA), over 94,000 homes were equipped wiht solar panels by mid-2024, a meaningful jump from under 60,000 the previous year. The ISEA estimates that an average of 65 solar panel installations are completed on Irish homes each day.
