93 votes were in favor of a resolution to suspend Russia’s membership in the UN Human Rights Council.

24 against and 58 abstentions.

Russia’s status as a member of the Human Rights Council was disqualified as more than two-thirds of the UN member states, excluding countries that did not attend or abstain from voting, supported the resolution.

Libya, which suppressed anti-government protesters in 2011, is the only country that has so far been suspended as a member of the UN Human Rights Council.

Prior to the vote, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Nations appealed for the resolution, saying Russia is a country that shakes the foundations of international peace and the Security Council.

North Korea, China and Iran voted against.

Prior to the vote, North Korea said it was concerned that some countries would continue to pursue confrontation and distrust among member states.

In fact, it is aimed at the United States.

Shortly after the resolution was adopted, Russia immediately declared its withdrawal, saying it was an illegal and strategic measure.

However, some pointed out that the total number of negative votes, abstentions, and countries that did not participate in the vote in this vote is more than half of the 193 UN member states.
