Alberto Núñez Feijóo, president of the PP, has outlined a series of measures aimed at reversing what he views as the damaging policies of Pedro Sánchez’s government. Speaking at an event celebrating Isabel Díaz Ayuso’s two years as president of the Community of madrid, Feijóo detailed his party’s commitment to a new ideology focused on institutional reform and combating corruption.
Feijóo presented nine key proposals intended to address the “unprecedented damage” inflicted on Spanish democracy. These proposals include notable reforms to the Criminal Code and measures designed to depoliticize key institutions.
A central plank of Feijóo’s plan is to strengthen laws against corruption. The PP aims to reinstate the crime of sedition, increase penalties for malfeasance, and legally prohibit pardons for those convicted of corruption. These measures are designed to ensure greater accountability and transparency in government.
In addition to criminal code reforms, feijóo pledged to appoint a State Attorney General endorsed by the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) and to depoliticize the Constitutional Court. He also promised to eliminate superfluous government positions and limit the use of decree-law to curb government overreach.
“This is how we are going to get that Spain that people want to vote and that people want proud. They are not words, we will do it. We will not occupy, but to serve. We are not going to replace, but to transform. We will do it with courage and we will do it with values,” Feijóo said.
