A Story of Loss and Resilience
Maheritiana Schehr, a resident of Seltz, France, is channeling personal tragedy into a fundraising effort to support cancer patients. Driven by the loss of her father, mother, sister, and husband to cancer, and having battled the disease herself twice,Schehr is persistent to provide aid to those affected, particularly in her native Madagascar.
Schehr’s father succumbed to lung cancer in 2001, followed by her mother to ovarian cancer in 2012. Her older sister died in 2015, and her husband in 2020, also from lung cancer. She herself faced cancer diagnoses in 2020 and 2022,but is currently in remission. “I fight for my children, they are small and they are my strength,” she stated.
Recurrence and Continued Fight
Schehr is currently in remission after a recurrence of breast cancer detected two years ago. Having moved to Seltz from Madagascar in 2012 wiht her late husband, she now focuses on supporting cancer patients in her homeland. She describes the period following her husband’s death as particularly challenging, receiving a first breast cancer diagnosis just four months after his passing. her treatment included a mastectomy of the left breast, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy.
Fundraising for Madagascar
Schehr’s fundraising efforts are specifically aimed at providing support to cancer patients in Madagascar, where access to treatment and resources is limited. Details regarding the fundraising platform and specific goals are currently unavailable, but she hopes to make a tangible difference in the lives of those battling cancer on the island.
