Our country’s exports have been positive for 7 months in a row, and the trade balance has been in surplus for 11 months in a row.

This is due to the continued recovery in semiconductor exports, a major export item, and car exports reaching an all-time high.

Korea’s exports continued to increase for seven consecutive months, with exports in April reaching $56.26 billion, an increase of 13.8% from a year ago.

In April, exports of 13 of Korea’s 15 major export items increased, achieving the highest export increase this year.

First, exports of semiconductors, Korea’s largest export item, showed an increase for six consecutive months.

Semiconductor exports in April totaled $9.96 billion, an increase of 56.1% compared to the same month last year.

In addition, exports of all IT items, including displays, computers, and wireless communication devices, along with semiconductors, showed an increase for two consecutive months.

Auto exports reached a record high of $6.79 billion.

Although unit prices rose due to expanding exports of eco-friendly cars and sports utility vehicles, export volume also increased compared to last year, achieving a record performance.

Exports by region also performed well, with exports increasing in 7 of the 9 major exporting regions.

In particular, exports to the United States reached an all-time high of $11.4 billion.

Exports to China, the largest export market, also increased for two consecutive months.

April imports totaled $54.73 billion, up 5.4% from a year ago.

The trade balance was in surplus by $1.53 billion, continuing the surplus for 11 consecutive months.

“As of April this year, the cumulative surplus was $10.6 billion, the highest performance in five years since 2019.”

Trade, Industry and Energy Minister Ahn Deok-geun said, “The export plus and surplus trend will continue in the second quarter thanks to robust exports of major items such as IT items such as semiconductors, automobiles, general machinery, and ships. “
