Senior actress Yoon Yang-ha passed away on the 4th (local time) at her home in Virginia, USA. 81 years old.
Actor Han Ji-il announced the news of Yoon’s passing on his Facebook page on the 13th.
Born in Sunchang, Jeollabuk-do in 1940, the deceased worked as a wrestler and judo athlete. After being eliminated from the national selection for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, he went to Chungmuro Korean Actor Academy to develop his dream of becoming an actor. It was at this time that he formed a relationship with director Kim Soo-yong and made his debut in the film industry. Director Kim gave the stage name ‘Good river’, that is, Yangha (良河), meaning “the emotions of an actor should flow like a good river that never runs dry.”
1967 Directed by Kim through the short played a supporting role in The deceased rose to stardom through action films in the 1960s and 1970s. (1968), (1969), (1970), etc. He worked with director Im Kwon-taek on about 20 films and with director Kim Soo-yong on about 10 films.
The deceased served as the 24th president of the Korean Film Actors Association. He did not give up his passion for judo, and served as the vice president of the Korean Judo Association in the mid-1990s, and served as the leader of the judo team at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
Survivors include his wife Seo Seong-mi and his sons Yoon Tae-woong and Se-woong. The funeral will be held on the 13th (local time) at the ‘Church Together’ in Centerville, Virginia, with actors Dae-Geun Lee, Gu-Soon Lee, and Mi-Kyung Won attending.
