Sennheiser has announced the Momentum 5 Wireless headphones, introducing key hardware updates to its premium audio lineup.
The new model focuses on internal improvements rather than a visual overhaul, featuring enhanced active noise cancellation (ANC) and a user-replaceable battery. Active noise cancellation is a technology that uses microphones to pick up low-frequency noise and create an inverted sound wave to cancel it out, reducing ambient sound for the listener.
The introduction of a user-replaceable battery marks a first for the Momentum series. This design choice allows users to extend the functional life of the headphones by replacing the power cell once it degrades, addressing a common hardware limitation in wireless audio devices.
The Momentum 5 Wireless will be available starting June 30th. The headphones are priced at $399.99, which is a $50 price increase over the previous Momentum 4 model.
Visually, the Momentum 5 Wireless remains closely aligned with the design language introduced with the Momentum 4. The headphones feature large ear cups and a contemporary aesthetic that prioritizes comfort.
This current design direction represents a departure from the retro aesthetic that defined earlier versions of the Momentum line. That shift to a more modern look occurred nearly four years prior to the announcement of the Momentum 5.
While the external appearance does not differ significantly from its predecessor, the combination of improved ANC and the new battery architecture serves as the primary upgrade for the latest iteration of the series.
