Sensible retro and key sense at once! Keychron K2 Retro Aluminum Hot Swap Wireless Keyboard Red K2 Retro Keyboard: Dana and DPG Don’t Challenge My Heart

“Red Keyron K2 Aluminum Hot Swap Wireless Keyboard”

Hello Walter.

Today, I would like to introduce you to the red K2 Retro keyboard from Keyron, a famous custom keyboard. The K2 Keychron product has a 75% layout, which is slightly smaller than a typical denkeyless keyboard, and thanks to that, it is a keyboard that can be used more comfortably in a small desk space. There are several products from K2 itself, but the Retro product that I will introduce today is a product with a very impressive design that brings out the sensibility of an old computer keyboard.

Due to the nature of keyron products, this retro product itself has various options. You can choose a switch and hot switch in a general ABS plastic frame, or a switch and hot switch in an aluminum frame. Products with ABS frames that do not support hot swapping are the cheapest, and products with aluminum frames that support hot swapping tend to be the most expensive.

If so, let’s learn more about the ‘Keyron K2 Retro Aluminum Hot Swap Red Keyboard’ below.

1. package appearance & unboxing

First is the appearance of the package.

The package, decorated with a neat black color and hologram engraving, is sealed with a thin vinyl. If you peel this vinyl, you can open the package without a separate seal.

On the back of the package, you can see the simple appearance and features of the K2 Retro product.

It looks like the package has been opened. There is a foam buffer at the top, and various components including the keyboard are well arranged underneath.

2. Components

▶ All components

All components include the redundant K2 Retro aluminum hot-swappable keyboard, USB-C to A type cable, keycap puller, switch puller, Windows-only keycaps, and manuals.

▶ K2 Red retro axle (hot swap)

As for the outside of the keyboard, the color which reminds me of the keyboards I saw in computer academies when I was very young caught my eye immediately. In particular, the red ESC key, which is the signature of the Keychron keyboard, appeared slightly different in color with a retro sensibility.

Looking at the red colored ESC with a retro sensibility, it feels like an emergency exit. It can be a very fun color.

The Keychron K2 Retro is impressive with its dense layout. The lack of tenkeys is the same as a keyboard without a tenkey, but it is not a keyboard without useful keys such as insert, del, home, end and address keys, so if you adapts to the installation, you can use it in practice There was no discomfort.

Looking at the Keychron K2 Retro keyboard from the side, it looks like the following. Overall, the placement of the F keys was slightly lower than the number keys, so I felt a clear sense of difference, and even though it was an OEM profile, I felt very unique.

On the left side, there is a USB-C type port used as a wired connection and charging port, and a toggle switch to select Mac and Windows, and a toggle switch to select Bluetooth and wired connection.

At the bottom of the Keyron K2 Retro, you can check the serial number of the product, a two-level height-adjustable support, and four non-slip rubber pads attached to the four corners.

An aluminum frame was used, which definitely made the overall build feel solid and stable.

In addition, the height-adjustable pedestal, which can be adjusted in two steps, was very smooth to operate, and anti-slip pads were attached to each base of the pedestal, so it was possible to use it with a sense of of stability at any height.

The Keychron K2 Retro weighs around 820g, which I felt was quite a light keyboard for a keyboard with a 75% range.

The Keychron K2 Retro red switch looks like this. The red switch has the lowest noise among the three options, which are blue, brown and red, and the key weight is 45 ± 10gf.

I plan to use K2 Retro by connecting it to a Windows computer, which is the main setup, so I removed the Mac command key and the existing option key, and installed the Windows and ALT keys.

In addition, the switch, which is an advantage of hot-swappable products, could be freely replaced through the included switch remover, and it is possible to use the same 3-pin to 5 mechanical switch -pin, so I think you can refer to it.

(For reference, ‘~ key’ is said to only be able to use 3-pin switches due to the Bluetooth module.)

So, this is what the Keyron K2 Retro looks like after replacing the keycaps. As such, the keyron keyboard seems to be a great advantage that it is suitable for Mac and can be used for Windows as well.

▶ USB-C to A type wires & charging cable

This is a USB-C to Type A cable. Overall, it was a cable with a luxurious feel made of flexible fabric, and since it uses a wired connection, a noise filter was also installed on the USB-A type cable.

Also, the C-type part connected to the keyboard is bent in a ‘ㄱ’ shape. If it is a straight-shaped cable, it seems that the cable is often bent when connecting to the keyboard.

3. How to use

▶ Retro design

I tried using it together with the unique K2 palm rest that I got before, and it was a product with very well chosen colors, so it went well with the rest of the wooden palm.

As the color tends to blend well into different sets, I thought it would go well with white or hardwood sensitivities as well as black sets.

▶ Battery

The K2 Retro battery has a huge capacity of 4,000mAh, and can be used for up to 570 hours.

▶ Bluetooth connection

Along with a caps lock, this is the only place where the light comes on on the K2 Retro keyboard. If you press and hold the fn key and one of the buttons 1 to 3 that can select Bluetooth, pairing is performed, and after connecting once, press the fn key and 1 to 3 You can switch or connect to Bluetooth with one click on the key.

The Keychron K2 Retro product supports Bluetooth 5.1, so pairing is very fast, and device switching is also very fast.

▶ Sensation of touch

Finally, here is a video of the Keyron K2 Retro aluminum hot swap red axle. Coherence was minimal, stability was well maintained, and the overall build itself felt solid and stable.

The feel of the red axis switch was a little different from other linear axes, and I could feel a light touch like lead bounce.

This is a general review.

The K2 Retro aluminum hot swap red keyboard that I reviewed today felt like a keyron product, and the keyboard itself has a very high degree of completion, and is very useful in many ways, of a size with a very high space consumption, and a layout with a sense of difference, and a design with a retro sensibility. It was a nice keyboard.

If you are looking for a keyboard for Mac or if you are looking for a keyboard with a retro sensibility with a small size of 75% installation that is compatible with Mac and Windows, we strongly recommend the product Keychron K2 Retro with retro sensibility. finish
