Red Bull Racing Driver Sergio Perez Discusses Start Issues at Austrian Grand Prix with Max Verstappen
Red Bull Racing driver Sergio Perez has confirmed that he engaged in a conversation with teammate Max Verstappen regarding the issues that occurred at the start of last night’s sprint race at the Austrian Grand Prix. The two drivers managed to secure 1st and 2nd place, respectively, providing them with an opportunity to clear the air after the intense race.
During the Sprint Rankings qualifiers, Verstappen and Perez found themselves at the front of the grid amidst challenging weather conditions. The rain made it difficult to control the cars, and both drivers had to be cautious about water spray from the cars in front of them. As the race commenced, Perez managed to take the lead, leading to a scramble between the two teammates. A frustrated voice emanated from Verstappen’s radio, questioning Perez’s racing tactics. In response, Perez calmly asked, “What’s wrong, Max?”
After crossing the finish line and parking their cars in Park Ferme, the drivers headed into the tunnel to have a discussion. Perez expressed, “Visibility was another factor, with the rain and the need for larger tires. It was challenging to see everything clearly. I made a good start, but the first turn was tricky. I tried to maintain my line but was unable to see that Max was next to me, resulting in us making contact. However, I believe that in the heat of the moment, both of us were too frustrated. We have addressed the issue, and we are fine now. We will learn from this experience to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”
Despite their conversation, Verstappen and Perez will not be competing for tandem positions in the final race. Verstappen has secured the pole position, while Perez faced difficulties during qualification and will begin the Formula One Austrian Grand Prix in 15th place. The competition will take place on July 2nd at 8:00 pm and will be broadcast live on Sport 1 (607) channel.
