Madrid – The second week of MIR 2025 (Médico Interno Residente) square allocations began this Monday, wiht several specialties⁢ already filling all ⁤available positions. Demand has been notably strong in fields like dermatology and plastic surgery.

Dermatology and Plastic Surgery Lead the Way

As ⁤of Monday, seven specialties‍ had exhausted their available slots. Dermatology and plastic, aesthetic, and reconstructive surgery were the first to reach full capacity. Ophthalmology and oral and maxillofacial surgery followed. Last friday saw endocrinology and nutrition, otolaryngology, and cardiology also fill their quotas. This monday, traumatology and anesthesiology were added to⁤ the list.Urology currently has only four places remaining.

The‍ Spanish MIR association (AME) reports that this year’s ‍data marks a notable point ⁤in the MIR process.”A trend observed in previous years has solidified: dermatology remains the most sought-after specialty, reaffirming its position⁢ as ‘queen’,” the AME stated.

In 2024, dermatology positions were filled around number 648 ⁤in the selection process. This year,⁤ they ‍were filled before number 542, indicating a notable increase in demand.

Plastic, aesthetic, and reconstructive surgery is also gaining popularity. According to the AME, ⁤the specialty “maintains an ascending trajectory,” filling its 55 positions by order number 827, compared to 1,090 last year.

Family Medicine Faces Challenges

In ‍contrast, family and community medicine, the specialty with the largest number of places (2,508), has ⁣filled only⁣ 4% of‍ its slots so far. Awarding‍ 9, 13, 15, 23 and 35 seats respectively in the first days. this slow pace raises concerns about potential unfilled ⁢vacancies,a problem seen in ⁢previous years, especially ⁤given the current shortage of healthcare professionals in primary care.

The AME ⁢noted⁤ that the selection of family medicine by the number 24 ranked candidate in ⁤seville is unusual. “Although a significant deficit of professionals in family medicine is expected in the coming years, the specialty is still not attractive to new doctors,” the AME explained.

Other specialties, including occupational medicine, ⁢nuclear medicine, clinical‍ analysis, clinical⁢ biochemistry, ⁢and clinical pharmacology, have yet to register any selections.

What is‍ the MIR Program?

The MIR (Médico Interno ⁤Residente) program is the residency program in⁣ Spain, where⁤ newly graduated medical doctors undertake specialist training to specialize in a chosen ⁢medical⁢ field.

What are the ‍main takeaways from ‍the early stages of MIR 2025?

The initial allocation phase of the MIR 2025⁣ program reveals significant shifts in specialty preferences. High demand for dermatology and plastic surgery contrasts with challenges in ⁤filling family medicine positions.

Which specialties are most popular in MIR 2025?

According to the available data, dermatology and plastic surgery are very popular in MIR 2025.

How is Dermatology Performing in MIR 2025?
