Subscribers are experiencing severe inconvenience due to disruptions in broadband Internet and cable transmission services in SK in the Cheonan area of South Chungcheong Province.
This incident occurred when a large number of optical cables buried in the ground were severed during a stormwater pipe improvement project.

Telecom company employees are working blocking the alley.
There are thick lines of optical cables scattered here and there.
It was just after 9am on a weekend morning.
About 20 SK Broadband optical cables were cut in a stack at the stormwater pipe improvement project construction site.
The company’s Internet and cable services were suspended throughout Cheonan City and some areas of Asan City connected to it.
The number of subscribers experiencing Internet problems was estimated at 55,000 households.
Subscribers experienced considerable inconvenience as the fault was reported late and restoration work was also carried out slowly.

There were also reports of work and sales disruptions.

A Cheonan city construction official said the accident occurred while cutting asphalt without realizing that the communications cable was buried too shallowly.

SK Broadband has apologized for the service interruption and plans to begin investigating the situation as soon as restoration is fully complete.
