Beamer Provides Recruiting, Transfer Portal Updates on National Signing Day

Columbia, SC – February 4, 2026 – South Carolina head football coach Shane Beamer addressed the media Wednesday, providing updates on the team’s 2026 recruiting class, the transfer portal, and coaching additions.

While the early signing period has diminished the significance of National Signing Day, Beamer still held a press conference to discuss the program’s progress. According to reports, South Carolina signed 15 players during the early signing period and expected to add two more on Wednesday.

Portal Successes and Return of Key Players

Beamer expressed enthusiasm for the team’s transfer portal class, stating they brought in “experience, production, and no entitlement.” He emphasized that high school recruiting remains the program’s foundation, but the portal was utilized to address specific needs this year. “We brought in experience. We brought in production. We brought in no entitlement. Guys that want to come in here, compete, and make us better,” Beamer said.

A notable situation involved starting left tackle Josiah Thompson, who initially entered the transfer portal but ultimately decided to return to the team. Beamer described being “completely blindsided and shocked” by Thompson’s initial decision to enter the portal, but praised Thompson for initiating a conversation about a potential return. “In the end he makes our team better and [I’m] happy he’s back here with us,” Beamer stated. He also noted that he denied return requests from other players who had entered the portal, citing the circumstances of their departures.

2026 Recruiting Class Additions

Two players joined the Gamecocks’ 2026 class since the early signing period closed on December 5. Stone Furrey, a wide receiver and the son of South Carolina wide receiver coach Mike Furrey, committed on January 7, 2026. Matthew Oh, a long snapper from Georgia, announced his commitment on February 1, 2026.

Roster Outlook for 2026

Beamer’s 2026 roster will include returning stars such as quarterback LaNorris Sellers, leading wide receiver Nyck Harbor, and edge rusher Dylan Stewart. The program added a total of 25 players via the transfer portal.

The following players have signed with South Carolina as part of the 2026 class, according to information released on Wednesday:

  • Triston Lewis (Safety, Greenwood, SC) – Three stars (No. 676 nationally, No. 43 safety, No. 13 in South Carolina). Committed July 17, 2025.
