Sharjah is seeing safer roads. Traffic accident fatalities in the emirate dropped 24% in 2024 compared to 2023, according to police. The Sharjah police reported a rate of 1.76 deaths per 100,000 residents,marking a important advancement in Sharjah traffic safety.
Authorities credit proactive strategies for the decline. The Traffic and patrols Department, working with the Security Media Department, implemented 12 campaigns targeting risky driving behaviors. These included distracted driving, improper parking, jaywalking, speeding, and unsafe motorcycle use. The road safety programs reached nearly 905,895 people across Sharjah.
Beyond enforcement, the Traffic and Patrols Department supported 272 events and activities, ensuring public safety. They also assisted with 1,976 maintenance and growth projects,improving traffic flow and overall Sharjah opportunities for safer transit.
Brig. Gen. Mohammed Alai Al Naqbi,director of the Traffic and Patrol Department,emphasized the role of community engagement. He saeid increased public awareness and compliance contributed to the positive results.
