San Jose Sharks forward Macklin Celebrini capped off a record-breaking season with a goal and two assists in a 6-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night, securing the franchise single-season points record.

Celebrini finished the 2025-26 NHL season with 115 points, surpassing Joe Thornton’s previous franchise mark of 114 points set during the 2006-07 campaign. The 19-year-old forward, selected first overall in the 2024 NHL Draft, recorded his goal and two assists in the third period of the Sharks’ season-finale win at Canada Life Centre.

Speaking in the Sharks’ locker room after the game, Celebrini emphasized the team’s focus on finishing the season on a positive note despite missing the playoffs. “We wanted to end on the right note,” he said. “That kind of hockey is fun when you’re making plays, getting chances, and playing the puck around. I think that’s when hockey is the most fun. So, we were just enjoying it.”

Celebrini’s offensive contributions were instrumental in the Sharks’ victory. He assisted on Igor Chernyshov’s first-period goal and Will Smith’s score before netting his own goal at the 1:14 mark of the third period. His performance marked his 18th three-point game of the season, tying Thornton’s franchise record for most such games in a single season.

Defenseman John Klingberg also addressed the media following the win, highlighting the team’s cohesion and effort throughout the game. He recorded three assists in the contest, contributing to a balanced offensive effort that saw multiple Sharks players find the scoresheet.

Mario Ferraro, another Sharks defenseman, participated in the postgame discussion, reflecting on the team’s improved performance in the final stretch of the season. The Sharks concluded the year with a 39-35-8 record and 86 points, representing a 34-point improvement from their 20-50-12 mark the previous season.

Goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic started in net for San Jose and made 25 saves as the Sharks held the Jets to a single goal after falling behind 2-1 early. The victory allowed the Sharks to end their season with points in three of their final four games (2-1-1 record).

Celebrini’s historic season included 45 goals and 70 assists, establishing him as the first Sharks player to reach the 115-point plateau. His achievement underscores a significant individual milestone for the young center, who has quickly become a cornerstone of San Jose’s offensive identity since entering the league.

The Sharks’ season-finale win over Winnipeg served as a fitting conclusion to a campaign marked by growth and development, particularly for their young core players. With Celebrini’s record-setting performance, San Jose enters the offseason with optimism about the trajectory of its rebuilding efforts.
