A man in his 40s was seriously injured after being hit by glass fragments from the ceiling and other roofing in an apartment building in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province.

The incident occurred on August 27, when the victim, a tile installer, was leaving an apartment in Unyang-dong, Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi-do after working for about two hours.

According to the victim, while he was waiting to take the elevator, the broken surface of a glass cover about 20-30 cm in diameter hanging from the ceiling fell on his arm.

The victim described the incident, saying, “I immediately heard an ‘awk’ sound and looked at my arm, and it was badly torn and slashed, as if a body had been dissected, and blood was gushing out like a fountain.”

The victim was taken to a nearby general hospital, where he underwent surgery that lasted about 3 hours and 30 minutes.

The doctor explained to him, “The artery, nerve, ligament, and muscle were all severed, which is fortunate,” and “If both arteries had been severed, it would have been a big problem.”

The victim expressed disappointment with the response from the apartment management, saying, “Several days have passed and the apartment has not contacted me or visited me.”

The victim added, “I have tried to contact the management office, but I still have not been able to get in touch with them.”

The victim is currently undergoing rehabilitation and is concerned about his ability to work and support his family.

He said, “I can barely move my four fingers and I can’t even move my wrist much. I don’t know when I will start working again.”
