Father Sentenced to Probation for Showing Adult Videos to Intellectually Disabled Daughter

A father in his‌ 50s has been sentenced to probation for showing adult videos to his intellectually disabled daughter while providing sex education.

Jeju District Court Criminal Division 2 sentenced Mr. A to 2 years and 6 months in prison and 4 years of probation on charges of violating the Special Law on⁣ the Punishment of ‌Crimes of Sexual⁣ Violence⁢ (Forcible Kinship Harassment).

Mr. A was also ordered to ⁣complete a 40-hour sexual assault treatment program and⁢ banned‍ from working in institutions related to ⁣children, youth, and disabilities for four years.

Case Details

Mr. A was on trial for allegedly taking his teenage daughter B, who has an intellectual disability, to a ‍computer at his residence in Jeju City last April, showing her an adult ⁤video and telling her, “I will touch you ‌like this when ‌I meet a ⁢man in ⁣the future.”

Mr. A had recently discovered that his‌ daughter had been sending photos of her body to unknown men via a mobile⁤ chat ⁤app for several months.

Defendant’s Statement

Mr. A admitted all the facts of the‍ charge, but claimed he had‍ only raised his daughter out of fear that she ⁣would have⁣ sex with men ⁤she‌ met online and that there was no intention to molest her.

He stated, “I played adult videos to teach my daughter about sex, and I taught it because I was worried that my ‌daughter might have sex ⁣with men she met online.”

Court Ruling

The court said, “The defendant deserves to be criticized for ⁤his inappropriate ⁤behavior,⁤ even though he has a responsibility to protect and raise the minor⁤ victim.”

However, the court also stated that Mr. A “reflects deeply on the crime and appears to have committed it during a sex education class, and it does not appear ‍to have been intentional.”

The ⁤sentence was determined taking into account the fact that Mr. A had no criminal record.
