Shocking Discoveries: Illegal Activities and Cruelty at Licensed Dog Breeding Establishments

YTN Exposes Brutal Reality of Illegal and Licensed Dog Breeding Facilities

In a recent report, YTN shed light on the harsh reality of an illegal dog slaughterhouse in Gangwon-do. Shockingly, licensed dog breeding establishments seem to be no different when it comes to the treatment of animals.

One heartbreaking incident involved a pregnant mother dog whose belly was forcibly cut open after she fainted. The intention was to extract and sell the puppies, while the mother’s lifeless body was callously tossed in a freezer. These distressing findings were uncovered by Reporter Jihwan on behalf of YTN.

Within a licensed dog breeding ground in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do, hundreds of dogs were discovered huddled together. The dogs were suffering from various health issues, experiencing leg pain, hair loss, and itchy skin. In this deplorable environment, they wallowed in feces, left food scattered on the floor, engaged in aggressive behaviors resulting in injuries, and even perished.

The presence of reported abuse led to the involvement of defense groups and special judicial police in the rescue mission. Upon inspecting the breeding room freezer, they were confronted with a haunting sight – a multitude of dog bodies wrapped in newspapers, overflowing at every corner. One mother dog, incapable of giving birth to more puppies, was sedated with a muscle relaxant and cruelly frozen. When the freezer reached its capacity, the bodies were secretly buried in the mountainous surroundings. Another tragic discovery was that of a mother dog who died with her stomach split open.

The kennel mother dogs involved in this horrid case were found to be exceptionally small. This is because smaller puppies from smaller dogs are more sought after at auction houses. However, this selective preference often leads to health complications, such as inflammation and infection in the reproductive organs of these smaller breeds.

This rescue operation resulted in the discovery of a total of 1,400 surviving mother dogs. Firstly, the local government and defense groups have decided to take over the responsibility of these dogs and explore adoption options. These dogs have been subjected to a life of confinement in narrow and unsanitary spaces, enduring the torment of giving birth repeatedly.

Behind the façade of licensed breeding grounds lies a seedy underbelly of illegal activities, including violations of the Animal Protection Act, the Veterinary Act, and the Waste Act. These acts of cruelty and disregard for animal welfare have brought shame to the industry.

As YTN continues to shed light on these distressing incidents, it is imperative that authorities take strong action against those responsible for such brutality. The suffering of these innocent creatures must not go in vain.
