Junior Boucher, 36, is accused of murdering 65-year-old Brian Hiltebeitel at Sandhill Crane Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Boucher violently attacked Hiltebeitel with golf clubs, dragged him into a pond, and drowned him. Police found Hiltebeitel’s body on the fairway and Boucher, naked, fleeing the scene.
Prior to the incident, Boucher’s mother reported his aggressive behavior. He had been banging on doors and making delusional statements. Deputies noted his history of mental illness and chronic marijuana use. This troubling behavior escalated less than an hour later when he attacked Hiltebeitel.
Forensic psychologist Dr. Michael Brannon discussed the challenges of treating untreated mental illness. He stated that adults cannot be forced into treatment if they refuse. Many individuals with severe mental illness end up arrested without proper resources for care.
Boucher had previous legal issues, including an arrest in 2022 for attempting to run over a deputy and attacking a police K9. His mother confirmed he had been Baker-Acted, which allows for temporary, involuntary hospitalization for mental health issues.
