Shocking Twist in Subhadra Murder Case: Accused Nabbed, Chilling Evidence Uncovered in Rented House
Subhadra Murder Case: Accused Remanded in Police Custody
Alappuzha: In a significant development in the Subhadra murder case, the two accused, Kattoor Palliparampil Mathews (35) and his wife Ernakulam Mundamveli Vattachirail Sharmila (38), have been remanded in police custody until 5 pm on the 26th.
The accused, who were living on rent in Kalavoor Korthuseri, were produced before First Class Magistrate M. Sasidharan, who granted the police custody based on a petition filed by Mannancherry Police Inspector M. K. Rajesh. The police sought custody for eight days to collect evidence from places like Udupi and Mangalore in Karnataka.
Police Investigation and Evidence Collection
The police have sought to collect evidence, including jewellery, mobile phones, and clothes of the murdered Subhadra. They also aim to collect evidence from the place where the murder took place and the place where the body was hidden, identify the accused through witnesses, and check whether anyone else was involved in the incident.
The court has directed the police to collect evidence in the presence of policewomen. The prosecution was represented by Assistant Public Prosecutor Nageshwari.
Third Accused to be Taken into Custody
The investigation team informed that the third accused, Mathews’ paternal cousin son Reynoldy (61), will be taken into custody from his house in Mararikulam South Panchayat Panezhtam, and evidence will be collected later.
Accused Questioned and Evidence Collected
Mathews and Sharmila were taken to the rented house in Kalavoor Korthuseri, where evidence was collected yesterday afternoon. Sharmila burst into tears, claiming she had done nothing wrong, while Mathews responded without hesitation, explaining the details of how Subhadra was killed.
The police recovered a pillow from the area, which the accused claimed was used by Subhadra and was discarded because it was stained with blood.
Background of the Case
The body of Subhadra (73) of Kanayannoor Harmony Homes Chakala Math, who went missing from Kochi on August 4, was found buried in the premises of Kalavoor Korthussery where Mathews and Sharmila lived.
Subhadra’s son Radhakrishnan had lodged a complaint with the police that Subhadra was missing. The investigation revealed that Subhadra was killed deliberately by the couple, who had taken her to Kortussery house as a strategy.
The third accused had given Subhadra the pills her son was taking to cure depression from Reynolds for three consecutive days and stole the gold. When she regained consciousness on August 7, Subhadra demanded the gold back, threatening to report to the police, which led to her murder and burial.
A police team caught the couple from a friend’s house in Manipal, while the deputy sheriff arrested Reynolds from his house.
