Al Hilal Saudi club duo Sergej Savic and Aleksandar Mitrovic are facing a major crisis with their coach Dragan Stojkovic, and it seems their international careers are in doubt.
The coach indirectly referred to some players who refused to join the Serbian national team during the recent international break, citing injuries. Mitrovic and Savic’s decision not to play for Serbia has sparked controversy, especially since they were training normally with their club.
Stojkovic spoke at a press conference after Serbia’s 0-0 draw against Spain in the first round of the European Nations League and blamed some of the players for the negative results this summer during the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany.
Coric Criticized the Saudi Al Hilal Duo
The Serbian coach, Milovan Coric, a close friend of Stojkovic, revealed that they had a conversation about the crisis and explained: “I have spoken to Dragan about this issue… He will no longer be in contact with some players, especially Sergei.”
Coric confirmed in his statement reported by the website: sports “The Serbian said he didn’t like the recent behavior of the Saudi Al Hilal duo at all, and the former coach of the Serbian youth team continued: “They ran away when it was important to get results. I repeat, I know what Stojkovic will do and it’s a tough job for him.”
Serbian media say the public is usually against Stojkovic, but this time Mitrovic and Savic found themselves under fire. Because they decided not to play for Serbia, while they were training normally with their club.
