Shoigu Lands in North Korea: A Strategic Power Play Unfolds
Kim Jong-un and Sergei Shoigu Discuss Strengthening Strategic Dialogue
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un recently held talks with Russian Security Council Secretary General Sergei Shoigu, focusing on deepening strategic dialogue and enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
According to Pyongyang’s state media, the two leaders exchanged views on continuing to strengthen their strategic partnership and protecting mutual security interests.
Kim emphasized that the government of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea will expand cooperation and coordination with Russia based on their defense agreement.
The Russian Security Council also acknowledged the significance of the meeting, stating that it made an important contribution to the implementation of the agreement.
This meeting follows President Vladimir Putin’s visit to North Korea last June, where he signed a joint defense pact with Pyongyang.
Western observers have long suspected that Russia is deploying North Korean missiles in Ukraine.
A recent report by the Center for Conflict Armaments Research analyzed missile debris and found that “missiles manufactured in North Korea this year are being used in Ukraine.”
Russia and North Korea have a historic relationship dating back to the Soviet Union’s role in establishing North Korea. Since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the two countries have been working to strengthen their ties.
