Shuangliu District: From Aviation Hub to China’s Happiest City

The Shuangliu District in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, has been making significant strides in establishing itself as a high-quality Chinese aviation economic center. The district has recently been honored with the title of China’s happiest city at the prestigious China Happy City Forum, marking the fourth time it has received this esteemed recognition.

Aviation Developments

One of the district’s notable accomplishments is the completion of the Airbus Lifecycle Service Center, the first of its kind outside of Europe. This state-of-the-art facility, which was inaugurated on September 28, is set to play a key role in the integration and advancement of high-end aircraft production and modern services in the area. With the capability to recycle over 90% of an aircraft’s weight, the center is poised to significantly contribute to the district’s industrial value, which is projected to exceed 40 billion yuan ($5.59 billion) by 2030.

Moreover, Shuangliu District has emerged as a vital player in the aviation supply chain, attracting 11 related projects with the support of Airbus ventures.

Sustainable Environment

Complementing its aviation advancements, Shuangliu District is also prioritizing environmental sustainability and community well-being. The district is working towards creating a multi-level park system that encompasses urban, community, rural, and small gardens. Notably, its first children’s park, designed with flight as the central theme, has been met with acclaim since its opening earlier this year. In addition, the district has made considerable strides in enhancing its green spaces, boasting a green cover rate of 49.06% and a per capita green area of 15.6 square meters.

Social Welfare Initiatives

Furthermore, Shuangliu District is dedicated to fostering an age-friendly and inclusive society. Efforts have been made to establish a network that promotes happiness and beauty for all residents, with a specific focus on the well-being of children and elderly individuals. Notably, the district launched a maternal and child care project in 2022, benefitting hundreds of families and providing substantial support worth nearly 5.2 million yuan.

Looking ahead, Shuangliu District has outlined ten key projects aimed at promoting a happy and beautiful life for its residents. These initiatives encompass various aspects such as income, living costs, public services, and urban mobility, demonstrating the district’s commitment to enhancing the overall quality of life for its citizens and enterprises.

Shuangliu District was awarded the title of China’s happiest city (urban area) at the China Happy City Forum held in Chengdu recently at Chengdu 2023. This is the fourth time that Shuangliu District has received this prestigious award.

Shuangliu District is home to the Airbus Lifecycle Service Center, Airbus’ first aircraft recycling project outside of Europe, which was completed on September 28. It will help promote the integration and development of high-end aircraft production and modern services in Shuangliu District. and will be able to recycle more than 90% of the weight of each aircraft.

The industrial value is expected to exceed 40 billion yuan ($5.59 billion) by 2030. Furthermore, Shuangliu District is a key player in the supply chain. It has also attracted 11 related projects with support from Airbus projects.
