Kaohsiung MRT operations north of the R17 World Games station were disrupted yesterday morning by a power anomaly. After the maintenance, Gaoji Company resumed normal operations on all lines at around 9 pm yesterday, with an average shift interval of around 8 to 10 minutes.
This morning, peak time is running between 4 and 5 minutes.
Causes and Repairs
The Kaohsiung MRT Corporation said today that after the relevant electric trains returned to the factory last night, they have damaged three other rails this morning. Yesterday, full maintenance will be done at night and linear measurements are all back to normal and safe.
The Kaohsiung MRT Corporation said the cause of the accident was initially determined to be that the height of the third rail interfered with the collector shoes of the first train involved in the accident, causing damage to both the collector boots and the third rail, and then to subsequent trains passing by.
Gaojie staff conducted a walk-through inspection yesterday, but heavy rain made visual inspection more difficult. Fortunately, the defective road section was clearly identified and emergency repairs were made.
Future Improvements
Kaohsiung MRT Corporation noted that it has established relevant operating procedures and signed contracts with passenger transport operators to operate bus connections, however, when an accident occurs, it is difficult for passenger transport operators to temporarily dispatch and operate vehicles.
In the future, we will improve bus connectivity and transport speed and guide passengers to the site and at the same time request assistance from the Transport Bureau to communicate with shuttle bus operators.
Acknowledgement and Assurance
Kaohsiung MRT Corporation said it deeply regrets the inconvenience to passengers caused by yesterday’s incident, that it has conducted a thorough review to avoid a recurrence, and asked passengers to continue traveling with peace of mind.
